Lidice may be going ahead after all. Mirka Spáčilová writes in MfD that shooting will begin in June.

As I wrote a year ago, the Lidice screenplay centers on the World War II massacre of a Czech village in retaliation for the assassination of Reichsprotektor and all-around bastard Reinhard Heydrich.

If you follow Czech news (if swine hover), then you know shooting did not begin in December as initially planned as the producers were still short CZK 7m of their CZK 65m ($3.5m) budget. Producer Adam Dvořák has since appealed, with some success, for help from municipalities. Kladno, in particular, has lent support.

Alice Nellis is still set to direct Zdeňek Mahler’s script. Karel Roden will star alongside Zuzana Bydžovská, Matěj Hádek, Václav Jiráček, Martha Issová, Jakub Prachař, and Ivan Trojan.

The film is aiming for a 2011 release on June 9, the anniversary of the Lidice massacre.

Later this spring, Falcon Films will release Nellis’ new film Mamas & Papas, which I wrote about for Hospodářské noviny’s Víkend magazine.
